Frequently asked questions

About Dough Dissolve

What Is Dough Dissolve?

Dough Dissolve is a safe, non toxic, enzyme powered solution that breaks down dough at the source. Our proprietary formula gently lifts and dissolves stubborn residue, making it easier and safer to clean your bowls, jars, and baking tools.

Instead of scrubbing or soaking overnight, Dough Dissolve does the work for you.

Who Started Dough Dissolve?

Dough Dissolve was founded by lifelong sourdough lovers Alex and Alexis after one too many battles with cement like dough stuck to bowls, jars, and sinks. We knew there had to be a better way, one that lets bakers spend more time doing what they love and less time scrubbing what they don’t.

Why Does Dough Dissolve Work Differently?

Dough Dissolve is enzyme powered, not scrub powered. Dough residue is made up of starches and proteins, not fats, which is why traditional dish soap often just pushes it around.

Our formula breaks dough down at the molecular level so it rinses away easily. No sticky paste. No clogged drains. No elbow grease.

What Makes the Enzymes in Dough Dissolve Different?

We use high quality, FCC grade enzymes. FCC, or Food Chemicals Codex, is a globally recognized standard that ensures purity, consistency, and safety.

Not all enzymes are created equal. FCC grade enzymes are cleaner, more reliable, and more effective than lower grade industrial enzymes, especially in food prep environments.

Why Does Enzyme Quality Matter?

Lower grade enzymes can vary widely in strength and often contain fillers or byproducts. FCC grade enzymes are held to strict standards for purity, performance consistency, and safety in food adjacent environments.

That means predictable results and a better experience every time you clean.

What Are Soap Nuts and Why Are They Used?

Soap nuts are dried berries that naturally contain saponins, which create a gentle cleaning action when mixed with water. They have been used for centuries to clean dishes and textiles.

We chose soap nut powder because it is plant based, biodegradable, effective, and allows us to keep the formula minimal while avoiding harsh or unnecessary chemicals.

Is Dough Dissolve Safe for Hands, Tools, and Drains?

Yes. Dough Dissolve is designed for everyday use in food prep environments. It is non toxic, gentle on hands, and safe for sinks, drains, and the tools you bake with.

No harsh chemicals. No aggressive solvents. Just clean science doing the work.

What Ingredients Does Dough Dissolve Leave Out on Purpose?

We intentionally avoid unnecessary additives, fragrances, or preservatives.
No harsh chemicals. No synthetic fragrances.

Is Dough Dissolve a Sustainable Choice?

Sustainability is built into every decision. We prioritize plant based and biodegradable inputs, minimal and thoughtful packaging, and ingredients that are effective at low concentrations.

Less waste, less water, and less scrubbing.

Who Is Dough Dissolve Made For?

Anyone who bakes, especially sourdough bakers who are tired of sticky bowls, clogged drains, and scrubbing for far too long.

If cleanup is getting in the way of your ritual, Dough Dissolve is for you.

How It Works

How Does Dough Dissolve Break Down Dough?

Think of it like soap, but made for dough. Dough residue is made up of starches and proteins, not fats, so traditional dish soap often just spreads it around.

Dough Dissolve is formulated to actually break dough down at a molecular level so it dissolves instead of sticking.

How Do I Use Dough Dissolve?
  • Place your bowl, jar, or tool in the sink
  • Add 2 to 3 pumps of Dough Dissolve directly onto the dough
  • Fill with warm water using a 1 to 4 ratio of soap to water
  • Let soak for 10 minutes
  • Swirl the solution and lightly scrub if needed

The dough dissolves, rinses away, and your tools are clean without sticky paste or clogged drains.

Good to Know

Why Does Vinegar Not Work on Dough?

Vinegar is acetic acid, which is great for mineral buildup but does not break down dough. Dough Dissolve uses soap nut powder and lab grade amylase, which target and break down the starch bonds in dough.

What Should I Do If Dough Clumps Remain?

That is totally normal with thicker dough. Just swirl the water or lightly agitate with your fingers. Warm water activates the formula and helps everything work faster.

You will notice the clumps are no longer sticky and dissolve easily with a little movement.

Will Dough Dissolve Clog My Drain?

No. Dough Dissolve is designed to break dough down, not push it around. We do not recommend sending solid clumps down the drain.

If anything remains, simply agitate it until it fully dissolves and turns liquid before rinsing.

Is Dough Dissolve Septic Safe?

When used as directed, Dough Dissolve is designed to be septic safe. It breaks dough down so it rinses clean and is formulated without harsh antibacterial ingredients that can disrupt septic systems.

How Much Should I Use and Why Does Warm Water Help?

We recommend about a 1 to 4 ratio of Dough Dissolve to water. Warm water works best and speeds everything up by activating the formula.

What Actually Dissolves the Dough?

We use FCC grade amylase, which targets the sticky starch bonds in dough. That is why Dough Dissolve works differently than dish soap or vinegar and actually dissolves the dough instead of spreading it around.

How Long Does One Bottle Last?

A little goes a long way. Most people use 2 to 3 pumps per soak, so one 8 ounce bottle typically lasts about 50 cleans.

Is Dough Dissolve satisfaction guaranteed?

Yes. We want you to love Dough Dissolve. If it doesn’t make cleaning dough easier, faster, and less frustrating, just reach out and we’ll make it right.

No stress. No hassle. Satisfaction guaranteed.
